Progress Underway: Physical Education and Sport Precinct

January 22nd, 2025

Construction has commenced on Phase 1 of the Physical Education and Sport Precinct (Precinct), marking an exciting step in the development of new facilities at MLC.

This stage includes the new Aquatics Centre and an enhanced Year 3–6 playground, both set for completion in 2026. In addition, a new playground in front of the Fitchett Chapel is nearing completion, with final touches expected by the end of Term 1, 2025.

The focus of the works to date has been on establishing a securely contained site and creating safe site access points from Lofts Avenue. These measures are designed to preserve everyday campus routines, maintain the safety of our and the broader community, and enable construction to progress efficiently.

The current Physical Education Centre (PEC) remains operational throughout Phase 1. To accommodate construction activities, PE classes have been relocated to alternative on-campus venues or, where required, to external facilities for sports training.

As a collaborative community, MLC is working closely with parents and families to manage the temporary changes required to facilitate this significant project. Measures to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow include:

  • Chapel Carpark: Drop-off remains unaffected, though a reduced number of parking spaces has modified traffic patterns.
  • Lofts Avenue: Construction access points are only operational outside peak traffic hours, and the pedestrian footpath and drop-off along the avenue's west side are closed between the two construction site entrances.

To ensure safety and alleviate congestion, families are encouraged to minimise using Lofts Avenue and avoid parking near the construction site entry. Instead, families are asked to consider parking on nearby streets and walking students to the Junior School or campus entry points. Traffic controllers are stationed to manage pedestrian safety and the flow of construction vehicles.

We are grateful for the cooperation and understanding of our community as we work together to deliver these facilities, which will benefit MLC student's wellbeing for years to come.
