Did you know that you can have a gourmet three-course meal on the MLC Kew campus? The Terrace Restaurant is the cornerstone of the College’s renowned VCE VET Hospitality program, where everything is done by our Year 11 and 12 students – from cooking and serving to taking payments and making coffee!
The two and three-course lunches, as prepared by the Year 12s, are already a popular option amongst staff, parents and Old Collegians, and sittings regularly book out.
2019 sees a new addition: ‘Krome Eats’!
This new dining concept, prepared by the Year 11s, replaces the old high tea program and aims to deliver a more casual, café dining experience over lunchtime.
“The Krome Eats concept meets the increasing popularity of restaurant-quality take-away and delivered food that we are seeing in Melbourne,” says Vicky Manos, one of the VET Hospitality team leaders. “We wanted to continue to provide a situation that was consistent with industry practice whilst keeping the course exciting for students!”
The menu will incorporate the latest in healthy ingredients, with added input and ideas from the students. Examples of dishes might be soba noodle bowls, ‘super green’ salads and acai bowls. Prices will be between $3.00 and $12.00 per dish, and takeaway will also be available in eco-friendly packaging.
All are invited to book a table for lunch, including students, staff, Old Collegians and members of the public.
“The students are so excited to be a part of this new concept,” Vicky says. “The new Krome Eats uniform and logo are already a big hit!”
The Terrace Restaurant, meanwhile, will continue to serve their impressive two and three-course lunches on separate days, including some exciting themed lunches: a Greek themed lunch on Friday, 1 March and an Italian lunch on Friday, 29 March. The Terrace Restaurant sittings are already booking fast!
