Congratulations to our IB Class of 2020 who today received their results, complementing the outstanding VCE scores released earlier this week.

7 students have achieved perfect IB scores of 45, which equates to the highest possible ATAR of 99.95. Congratulations to Nancy An, Jessica Chung, Alice Clifford, Tina Hui, Bridget Leibold, Joyce Wong and Olivia Yin for their fantastic achievement.
  • A further 6 students achieved an IB score of 44, equivalent to an ATAR of 99.75
  • 28% of MLC’s IB students achieved an ATAR equivalent of 99 or above
  • 80% of students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above
  • The median ATAR for the IB cohort is an outstanding 95.45
“Congratulations to our IB students on these exceptional results,” says Principal, Diana Vernon. “The attributes reinforced through the IB Learner Profile – including the importance of thinking critically and being successful ‘risk takers’ in the way they approach unfamiliar situations with courage, resilience and determination in their work – have been particularly relevant throughout the year and have epitomised the skills that our students have demonstrated as they successfully managed the challenges of the year."

“I am incredibly proud of our IB Class of 2020. To achieve such impressive results, in the face of such diversity is a testament to the calibre of these young women."

“Whilst we celebrate ATARs, moreover, we are celebrating all their well-deserved achievements. This includes finding new ways to complete CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) hours during restrictions, personal leadership, and the support they have shown one another over a two-year IB journey. I applaud them all.”

The IB Diploma is an alternative to the VCE, and is globally recognised by universities. Known for its well-rounded curriculum, students must undertake a subject each from science, mathematics, language and social sciences alongside an extended research essay plus critical thinking and social service components. MLC is one of Australia’s most successful IB schools, with perfect scores being achieved each year for the past 13 years.

This year’s outstanding IB results complement the success of MLC’s graduating VCE Class of 2020, with 54% of the full cohort achieving an ATAR of 90 and above.

The final results for the MLC Class of 2020 (VCE, VCE VET and IB students) include the following statistics:
  • 7 students achieved an ATAR of 99.95
  • 32 students, 11% of the cohort, achieved 99 or above, placing them in the top 1% of the state
  • 34% of the cohort were in the top 5% of the state with an ATAR of 95 or above
  • 54% of the cohort were in the top 10% of the state with an ATAR of 90 or above

The MLC Class of 2020 can now celebrate the completion of their formal secondary education and receipt of their ATARs enabling them to finalise and pursue their future pathways. Importantly, all our students have gained so much throughout their schooling journey and, in particular, following the experience of 2020. They have developed resilience and courage, they have celebrated personal triumphs and will continue to enjoy the lifelong friendships forged at school as well as value their many happy memories.

IB Student, Jessica Chung reflects, "Everyone should be really proud of themselves and for their results, no matter what score you ended up getting. All our results reflect how hard we all worked during this very difficult year – it is amazing!"

Alice Clifford then added, "Our year level of IB has a remarkable amount of love and support for each other. We belong to a strong, supportive community."

* Article was edited 18/01/2021 to include a revision from 5 to 7 students achieving a score of 45, due to a successful Enquiry Upon Results (EUR).
